Level 7: The "Duration" Mechanic This tense describes actions that started in the past and are STILL happening now, OR have just stopped but we can see the evidence. Formula: have/has + been + verb(-ing). Keywords for duration: For = duration of time (e.g., for 2 hours, for 3 years, for a long time). Since = starting point (e.g., since morning, since 2015, since I was a child). The difference between Level 6 and Level 7: I have read 20 pages (Level 6) = The action is completed. The book is finished. I have been reading for 2 hours (Level 7) = The action is still continuing or I just stopped and my eyes are tired. This tense focuses on the process and duration, not the result. Evidence in the present: She is sweating → She has been running. Negative form: have/has not been + Ving. Question form: Have/Has + subject + been + Ving.
